Position Title: Career Services Advising Fellow (International focus)

Position and Responsibilities:

Elon University’s Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) – Office of Career Services is offering a fellowship position focused on connecting Elon students with international internship and employment opportunities.  The individual appointed to this full-time, 10 month position will be located in Elon’s new Global Education Village complex and works very closely with staff in the Global Education Center.  The position will report to the executive director of career services and serve as the liaison between Global Education and the SPDC.  This fellow supports the university’s strategic goal of “An Unprecedented Commitment to Diversity and Global Education.”

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with students to help them leverage their previous international experience (study abroad, etc.)
  • Assist students in making strategic career decisions prior to selecting Global Education destinations
  • Assist domestic students in finding international post-graduate opportunities and assist international students in finding internships and jobs in the United States (working with the Global Education staff to address visa and qualification questions)
  • Develop new and enhance existing campus-wide relationships among key stakeholders/offices
  • Co-teach/teach the Preparing to Go Global” class

The fellow will receive $1,000.00 per month as well as on-campus housing and a meal plan.  Fellows are also granted funds for professional development (e.g., selected career assessment training/certifications) as funding is available and opportunities for personal and professional growth such as Spanish language classes. Candidate must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as counseling, higher education administration, human resources, international studies, social work, OR be in the final semester of their graduate degree program before starting.  Candidates must be able to commit to the full 10-month appointment to begin mid-July (the first month is dedicated solely to training).  Successful applicants must possess outstanding communication skills (interpersonal, written, and oral), the ability to effectively multi-task, strong attention to detail, a passion for learning, and a strong customer service orientation.  Previous experience abroad (studying, working, volunteering) is very helpful and a preferred qualification.
